DETERMINANTS OF ITALIAN SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT POLICY AND THE PHENOMENON OF DUALISM IN THE MIRACLE YEARS (1950-63)

Summary

From 1950 to 1963, the Italian economy was growing at a faster pace than ever before. The growth rate, especially in 1958-63, was such that this phase became known as the ‘economic miracle’.This process was characterized by a number of political and socio-economic challenges. This concerned the strengthening and further weakening of the Left, the intensification of trade unions and their growing importance, export-import and wage policies.Ultimately, a major challenge for the country remained an eradicating the deep socio-economic disparities between northern and southern Italy.
